The hard granite stone was not suitable
for the delicate filigree work that could be carved on Schist. What the artists
had to sacrifice on the delicacy of the work was compensated by the massiveness
of the sculptures. The crude hard granite boulders were transformed by the sculptors
into images of awesome beauty and charm symbolizing the vibrant and mighty power
of the Vijayanagara rulers.
The Vijayanagara architecture can be further divided into
Religious
Architecture
Civil Architecture
